The 7 gayest countries on Earth

Summer is here it’s time to start planning the long-awaited vacations. As a gay man, not every destination feels like holidays. After all, traveling should be stress-free. And what is more tiresome than hiding your true self or simply being bored because there’s nothing fun for a gay man to do? Sit back and rest…
Armenia
Sure, we could talk about its beautiful landscapes and rich heritage. The iconic brandy and exquisite wine. Or the world’s oldest churches. But how could a country with a rather low acceptance index even be on this list?
Well, we say it sure can. Come on, a country that Cher’s roots are from can’t be homophobic! And let’s not even mention Kim Kardashian. Like she herself said, “the gays love her!”
So, be a little careful with that PDA but go and have a fab time in this absolutely iconic country!
Sweden
Pop music as we know it wouldn’t exist without those vikings! They’ve given us Abba, Robyn, Max Martin, Avicii, Roxette – you name it! Besides, there probably isn’t a country that loves Eurovision more than Sweden. In the last 25 years alone, they’ve won four times.
You might ask, is it something in the Swedish water?
So, why not attend Malmö for Eurovision this spring! Pay a visit to the ABBA museum in Stockholm. Sweden’s capital also hosts the biggest Pride festival in Scandinavia.
Let’s go and try some Swedish meat. We’re talking about the iconic Swedish meatballs, you silly!
Thailand
They’ve just passed the law to legalize gay marriage, becoming the first Southeast Asian country to do so.
While Bangkok stands out as the most gay-friendly city, Phuket and Pattaya are also excellent destinations for queer folks. They host vibrant gay bars and a lively overall scene.
Oh, they even have their own edition of Drag Race Thailand! Something not even all liberal European countries can boast. That speaks volumes!
Brazil
Vamos! A country lush with all colors of the rainbow. It just looks so gay! Think about the carnivals… The twerking, the amount of skin, the vibrant costumes – isn’t it camp in its purest form? One would say gay has been embedded in the deepest roots of Brazilian culture.
Speaking of festivals, Sao Paulo hosts the world’s biggest Pride event every year, with an attendance of five million people. Yes, you heard it right!
Besides, Gloria Groove and Pablo Vittar have long dethroned RuPaul as the drag queens with the most listeners on Spotify.
Not to mention Brazil is the country with the second-largest amount of Grindr users in the world. Meu deus!
Spain
Madrid hosts many things that are among the largest in Europe. We’re talking about the largest gay district in Europe, the largest Pride parade in Europe. And maybe something else too!
Spain has something for every taste. Circuit parties? Yes. Beautiful architecture? Absolutely. Nude beaches? ¡Sí, claro! Not to mention the countless nightclubs, beach bars, and cafes.
A 2021 survey by YouGov revealed Spain as the most accepting of LGBTQ+ people in the eight countries it polled, with 91 percent saying they’d be supportive if a family member came out as gay or bisexual. Doesn’t that make for a perfect destination? ¡Vamos!
Greece
As the birthplace of portrayed homosexuality, Greece has come full circle this year and legalized gay marriage. The perfect time to celebrate with a visit!
In Greece, it’s not just the big cities like Athens and Thessaloniki that are gay-friendly and have multiple queer spaces but also its various picturesque islands.
Mykonos, most importantly, has been one of the most iconic gay destinations for decades. Not to mention the island of Lesbos, which has literally birthed the word lesbian.
There’s so much to discover in this cradle of democracy and gayness!
Canada
Love North American culture but hate guns, orange men, and homophobes? Well, Canada is right there for you.
As one of the most LGBT accepting countries in the world, Canadians won’t bat an eye when you’re being your most authentic self. Go explore the gay scenes of Toronto, Montreal, or Vancouver. Hike in nature and see the picturesque lakes and mountains.
And while you’re at it, go look for those (polar) bears. They might even whisper French words in your ear!
