24 Hours in Berlin

This week we’re taking you to Europe’s quirkiest and most liberal capital city, Berlin – where absolutely anything goes – almost. From parties that start on Wednesdays and go on all the way until Monday morning, to naked beaches and tiny tasty cafes, this city has got it all. Here are our top picks for what to do if you have 24 hours free in Berlin, in summer (our winter guide would be very different!)

Get your day started with coffee at westberlin

We love to start our day with a coffee (and with a Bean Body Coffee Scrub, which you might have had in your pack this month). Our favorite place for this is at the cafe and art gallery westberlin. There’s a sunny outdoor area at the back, delicious staff and a huge range of coffees and cakes. Should you want to catch some culture and history afterwards, you’ll also be really close to Checkpoint Charlie – the most famous crossing point of the old Berlin Wall.

Dance away your morning at Buttons

Yes, you read that right. If it’s the weekend, then there’s more than likely to be a party already in full swing. We especially love the vibes from Buttons at About Blank this summer. The music is so varied and fun, and there’s a huge garden area to explore with an outside dance floor, shaded areas with trees, shrubs, benches and plenty of corners to get lost in with a cute boy or two. Also, just dancing in your undies is totally cool, and many people do!

Swim in the lake at Strandbad Weißensee

If you fancy a more restful afternoon, head up to the gorgeous urban park and lake in Prenzlauer Berg, that is Strandbad Weißensee. There’s a ‘beach’ area if you want to feel the sand between your toes, plenty of places to enter the lake for swimming, and lots of big trees and grass for a picnic, or having a nap in the sun. Swimming in the cool waters while hearing the ‘ding’ of the tram bells in the distance is a fabulous Berlin experience.

Catch a drag show at Monster Ronson’s

Berlin has some of the most fierce drag queens in Europe, and Monster Ronson’s is the place to see them: every Tuesday night. To see visiting and up-and-coming drag queen’s at Geiza’s Pokehouse, make sure you’re there by 10pm. Pansy’s “House Of Presents” kicks off a bit later, with lipsyncs drag and performance art pieces.

Party the night away at Schwuz

For a varied programme of queer clubbing experiences, there are few places comparable to Schwuz. From new pop night Divas to sexy extravaganza Buttcocks, there’s something for everyone, whatever part of the LGBTQ+ spectrum you and your friends find are on that night.

Go back to Buttons

So we’re cheating a bit, as you’ve probably been awake for more than 24 hours now, but this is Berlin, so the normal rules don’t apply. We told you that the parties here are on all weekend, didn’t we?
