Here are three tracks that we unashamedly love for all their camp, brilliance and silliness. Boom boom boom boom. We want you in our room. Dancing in your undies. That’s kind of a giveaway to the first song….
Vengaboys – Boom Boom Boom Boom
When a song starts with the lyrics…:
“If you’re alone and you need a friend
Someone to make you forget your problems
Just come along baby
Take my hand
I’ll be your lover tonight”
…how could you feel anything but uplifted? We’ve all felt alone, and we’ve all needed a friend. It’s a lovely positive message. But before we get too soppy and carried away with the cringe-factor, let’s get down to the reason why this song is perfect for underpants-dancing…
Well, we don’t need a musical analysis here really, just listen to it!
These guys and girls were way ahead of the times with their unashamedly queerness, campness and flamboyant fabulousness, and they’re still just as sparkling and heart-warming today.
Shania Twain – Man I Feel Like A Woman
Yeah, you weren’t expecting that were you? Whatever part of the LGBTQ spectrum you are part of and whatever kinda feelings you have for women, men, or both, this unbeatably catchy song is impossible not to sing along to.
“I’m going out tonight, I’m feeling alright, I’m gonna let it all hang out.”
Well Shania, there’s no need to if you’ve got a good pair of underwear. Or maybe it means something else in Canadian…
You might have heard this song at weddings, Linda from reception’s 30th and so on, but let’s wipe off the naff and embrace this wonderful piece of pop. Dancing in your undies to this one is a great chance to enjoy yourself and take yourself less seriously.
And those boots/trousers (who can tell?) that her gorgeous band members are wearing… we love them almost as we love undies. Ooof. If you’ve pressed play already, you’ll probably have been humming along subconsciously since it started. You’re welcome.
Galantis – Peanut Butter Jelly
Music videos can be a bit pointless, boring, whatever. This one however will make the grumpiest grumps crack a smile. It makes us want to dance around gyrating with bits of fruit and veg in our new boxers, jock-straps or briefs (but we won’t obviously, ‘coz we’re not a music video).
Whatever your thoughts are on EDM, Galantis are the (rather gorgeous, well, totally gorgeous if we’re honest) kings of this genre. The catchy, energetic but strangely somehow soulful instrumental chorus makes us want to shake off our worries, tiredness, duvets and:
“Spread it like peanut butter jelly
Do it like I owe you some money”
You can deduct your own interpretation of what is being “spread” there. No judgement here guys. Happy spreading, and have a fab weekend!
