How-to: Using eye masks
So, you've got yourself a fantastic eye mask. But how to make sure you use it in the best possible way?
First things first: Do you need different eye grooming products in the morning and in the evening?
“Either or. You can apply eye grooming products in the morning, evening, or both. If you use the product in the morning, it’s best to use a formula with SPF to prevent sun damage and wrinkles. At night, use a thick and hydrating formula. This product can be used morning and night.” explains Danielle Block from Symbiosis Skincare.
But how to use an eye mask in the right way?
Wash hands prior to use, ensuring face has been cleansed before application. Applying light pressure on the corner of your eyes with your ring finger after applying eye mask will tone and reinforce eye muscles.
- Apply in a light tapping motion with the ring finger, which applies the least pressure to the skin
- Start at the inner corner of the lower eyelid and extending to the outer corner.
- If the eye mask has not fully absorbed into the skin, follow up with a gentle patting motion using your ring finger to allow the mask to penetrate more deeply into the skin
Remember, using them depends on many factors. It comes down to your skin type, your individual skin needs, and the kind of mask you’re using. Some masks are best used once per week, while others can be used more frequently, up to 3 times per week, according to her.
