Why using face tonics is a must – and how you can benefit

Ever wondered why tonics exist and furthermore how you can benefit? Well, we can tell you. Simply read on.

Your acid mantle is a very fine and very vital film on the surface of your outermost layer on top of the outer layer of your skin. It is slightly acidic and your body’s first layer of defence against bacteria, viruses and harmful foreign bodies.

After cleansing, your skin will not automatically be at the right pH level. This is where the use of a toner is important. Most toners will be ever so slightly on the acidic side and this will bring your skin pH level back to the optimal level.

For example the face tonic in this month’s Out’n’Proud pack, the Grüum Gösta Rejuvenating Facial Tonic has a pH of 4.5-5, which is perfect for restoring a balanced pH, protecting your skin’s acid mantle and maintaining your skin health.

Talking about it, it’s a fast-absorbing liquid, designed to remove any last traces of your cleanser as well as dead cells and the day’s debris. It whisks away residue or dirt left behind to complete the cleansing process. A revitalising boost for skin, it refreshes your complexion while preparing it for the rest of your skincare routine. Perfect for a post-shave soothe.

What’s the best way to use the facial tonic?

  1. After cleansing: spray a small amount of the tonic onto a cotton pad. Wipe over the skin, paying particular attention to the forehead.
  2. After shaving: the perfect post-shave solution. A spritz of it will soothe and heal any post-shave irritation.
  3. As a refresher: spray directly onto your face as a refreshing mist (please close your eyes!). Use morning and night, or whenever you need a pick me up.
