Yes, Albus Dumbledore is gay. This was confirmed by J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, back in 2007. While Dumbledore’s sexuality isn’t explicitly mentioned in the original books, Rowling revealed during a Q&A session that she always saw Dumbledore as gay and had even imagined him in love with Gellert Grindelwald, another powerful wizard.
Since then, the topic has sparked both praise and criticism within the LGBTQ+ and wider fan communities. The Fantastic Beasts film series provided more hints about Dumbledore’s romantic past with Grindelwald, especially in “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore,” where their emotional connection is more clearly shown on screen.
So while Dumbledore’s queerness wasn’t overt in the original seven books, it is now part of the canon and continues to be explored in the Wizarding World universe.
